Budding British Inventors at EFLC!

Two students at Ebbw Fawr Learning Community have received runner up awards for their entries into the British Inventors Competition run by the British Dyslexia Association.

The 2014 Dyslexia Awareness Week competition was incredibly popular and saw some fantastic entries coming in! Entrants were asked to provide work that followed the theme for 2014, “Dyslexia Matters…” The Artist category was judged by Mackenzie Thorpe, the Writer category by Emma Abdulaal and the Inventor category by Pamela Uddin.

The competition saw entries from students all across Britain. The girls from EFLC who received runner up awards in their categories did extremely well to compete at such a high national level.

Faith Holbrook, 14, came runner up of the 12-17 year old category and Aleece Jones, 11, came runner up in the 5-11 year old category. Both girls submitted original and creative entries and were awarded silver stamped certificates by the British Dyslexia Association.

Another forty students from EFLC sent entries into the competition and all received certificates to acknowledge the high standards of the entries from the school. Miss Astley (teacher) said “The pupils at Ebbw Fawr Learning Community have shown that they can compete and perform very well against pupils all across Britain. Faith and Aleece are both talented young ladies and they should be very proud of themselves for their achievements. I am certainly very proud of the girls – and all the other students who entered the competition too.

Da iawn pawb!”
