The catchment area of the new school is as follows:
Primary Phase – former catchment areas of Pontygof and Waunlwyd primary School will be the catchment area of the primary phase of the new 3-16 school.
Secondary phase – former catchment areas of Beaufort Hill, Rhos y Fedwen, Glyncoed (incorporating Garnlydan), Pontygof, Waunlwyd, Cwm, Briery Hill and Willowtown, All Saints Primary Schools will be the catchment areas of the secondary phase of the 3 – 16 school.
Those parents expressing a preference for schools of a religious character or through the medium of welsh are dealt with through the usual admission procedure.
Under the Welsh Government’s Admissions policy published July 2009, all pupils must apply for admission to reception. Application forms have therefore been forwarded to both Waunlwyd and Pontygof Primary schools to distribute to parents of existing nursery aged pupils wishing to commence reception at the new school September 2012. Parents of pupils attending other primary schools or private nursery setting may also apply for admission to the new school if they so wish.
Pupils currently attending Waunlwyd or Pontygof (Reception to Year 5) are guaranteed a place at the new school. Pupils attending Year 6 are also guaranteed a place at the new school. However, as the secondary phase does not open until September 2013, interim arrangements for the 2012/13 academic year are being made for them to be taught on the Glyncoed and Ebbw Vale Secondary sites.
Pupils currently attending Year 6 in all other schools in the former Glyncoed and Ebbw Vale catchment areas will be offered a place at the new school, subject to the admission number not being breached. In such instances, places will be allocated in accordance with the Authority’s over subscription criteria as follows:
