New Headteacher – Mr H Lloyd

Dear Parents/Carers,

My name is Mr Huw Lloyd and I’ve recently been appointed as the new Headteacher at Ebbw Fawr. I’m delighted and extremely proud to be given this opportunity. Although I don’t start until September, I have already visited the school on several occasions and have been impressed by the good behaviour and manners exhibited by students, and also the warm welcome from staff.

As a parent of school age children myself, I always find it interesting to know a little about their headteacher. So here goes, and I hope you find it interesting! I live in Aberdare, I’m married and have three children. When not in work or ferrying my children about, I love to play and watch sport. Football and mountain biking are now my main interests. Amongst many other things I coach a junior football side and although my competitive days are over, I still play 5 a side from time to time. I am a proud Welshman “Cymro i’r Carn”, and am genuinely passionate about improving the life chances of children of all abilities and backgrounds in the South Wales Valleys.

Professionally I have ten successful years of headship under my belt. I’m currently Headteacher at Mountain Ash Comprehensive School in the Cynon Valley, and previously I was Headteacher at Cwrt Sart Community Comprehensive in Neath.

My values as a Headteacher are quite simple. For children I believe strongly in: high academic standards, excellent behaviour, manners and uniform, a good attitude to learning, and a respect for others and the environment. For teachers I believe in: high standards of teaching and assessment, a desire to ensure that students of all abilities succeed, and a passion for the potential of education.

Successful schools form strong partnerships with parents and the wider community, and I look forward to working with you in the near future. However in the meantime, if you have constructive ideas about moving the school forward please do not hesitate to contact me at and I will endeavour to get back to you as quickly as possible.

Mr H Lloyd
