Year 8 Football progress into last 8 of Gwent Cup

The Year 8 Football team progressed into the quarter finals of the Gwent Cup last night with a 5-2 victory over St Josephs School, Newport.

Missing a number of key players from our successful Welsh Cup run, through both illness and injury meant a reshuffle in positions and system and this resulted in a disjointed start to the game from our boys.

We went behind early on to an opportunist strike, however, we were soon back on level terms thanks to a strike from Thomas Wyatt. Callum Foley then scored to put Ebbw Fawr 2-1 up in the game.

Further strikes from Eli King (Yr 7) and Logan Evans (Yr7) followed in the second half, before a second goal for Callum Foley secured the victory.

A number of substitutions were then made with players making their debut for the team. St Josephs grabbed a late consolation to end the game.

The team will now progress into the draw for the quarter finals.
