Hello Year 9 pupils, parents and carers.
Welcome to your Year 9 options newsletter!
You have some very important decisions to make in the next few weeks. Some of you will know exactly what subjects you want to opt for and, I imagine, some of you may have no idea as yet.
PLEASE DON’T WORRY! We’ve put together a detailed, comprehensive programme of information to help you make your option choices.
Remember, all staff are here to answer questions, give advice and support you in choosing the options that are best for you! Please pop in and see me in Room 254 if you need to.

Don’t choose a subject because your friend is, or because you like the teacher (you might not have them for KS4)
Choose a subject you’re genuinely interested in, you think you’ll enjoy at KS4 or if it might help you in a future career.
Most importantly, don’t stress too much or overthink your choices.
If you’re not sure, ask the teacher for more information. Or you could even ask someone you know who has taken the subject.
This survey is for you to get an idea of the subjects that are being offered. It is NOT your final choices for next year. Some subjects from the survey may not run if there is not sufficient interest.

For GCSE, you HAVE to take the core subjects. These are English, Maths, Science, Welsh and Religious Studies.
You will also have 1 compulsory PE lesson per fortnight.
On the pre-options survey you will need to make 3 subject choices, in addition to the core subjects. You will then do the same in March for your ‘real’ choices.
