Reach Out and Touch Romania

Reach Out & Touch Romania (Registered Charity 1054135) was started in 1991 following a trip by the charity’s founder, Gareth Jones, to Vârfurile, a village in north-west Romania. After seeing the poverty in the area, Gareth returned to Ebbw Vale in south Wales and set up the charity to plan a return visit.

Two decades later, the charity has made around 35 trips to Romania. We now support a retirement home, an orphanage, a nursery school, a secondary school and two churches amongst other projects.

During that time we estimate our vans have driven around 315,000 miles (equivalent to driving to the moon and back plus twice around the world!), almost 50 volunteers have made the journey, and we’ve delivered around 232 tonnes of aid, equivalent to the weight of two houses! We’d love to continue doing so, and your support is valued.
